Rankings and offers checked: 27 October 2026. 18+ only. UKGC-licensed poker rooms only.
Three things decide whether you win at online poker long before any bonus does: how many tables run at your stakes, how much rake the room skims off each pot, and how many recreational players are sitting with you. Most “best poker sites” lists lead with the bonus number because it’s the easiest thing to sell. We don’t. A £400 welcome sounds great until you notice it releases at 20% of the rake you pay and quietly expires before you’ve cleared a tenth of it.
Short answer: go with PokerStars (UK players now log in through Betfair) if you want a game at any hour, 888poker if you want softer, beginner-heavy tables, and GGPoker if you play on your phone or put in enough volume to climb a rakeback ladder.
The big 2026 change: since 7 October 2026, UK players reach PokerStars tables through the Betfair client and app, and old PokerStars.uk accounts close in early November. Betfair Poker left the iPoker network on 13 August, and Paddy Power Poker and Sky Poker are lined up to move onto PokerStars software later this year. If an older review still calls Betfair a soft iPoker room, it’s out of date.

The Best UK Poker Sites Reviewed: Who Each One Actually Suits
1. PokerStars on Betfair – Best Overall and Best for Tournaments
PokerStars is still the room where you’ll find a game at 3am on a Tuesday. The front door has changed, though. Since 7 October 2026, UK players log in through Betfair’s client and app, but the tables, software and global pool are the same ones you know, which is why the Sunday Million, SCOOP and WCOOP carry on as normal. September’s 25th WCOOP was the first to include Betfair’s UK players.
If you’re moving across, there are a few things to sort out. Cash balances transferred automatically, but your e-wallets need setting up again in the Betfair cashier, and player-to-player transfers are gone. And the “cheap rake” reputation is history: the April 2024 dot-com increase took NL2 rake from 3.5% to roughly 5%. Stars Rewards tops out around 25%, which is fine but well short of what GGPoker’s grinders can earn.
- Pro: The deepest liquidity UK players can get, the full MTT schedule, and HUDs allowed within a published tools list.
- Con: Mid-stakes tables are full of regulars. The Betfair platform hasn’t published its own rake schedule or rewards structure yet, so check both once you’ve migrated.
2. 888poker – Best for Beginners and Soft Fields
For new players, 888poker is the cheapest way in: deposit £10 and you get £50 in tournament tickets, spread over your first few days. Skrill and Neteller deposits don’t count, so use a card or PayPal. Casino players drifting over from 888’s other products keep NL2–NL25 softer than the same stakes on PokerStars, and the client got a proper rebuild in 2026, including browser-based mobile play.
UK players also get live tie-ins. 888poker ran several qualifying routes into its LIVE London Main Event (14–18 October 2026 at the Grosvenor Victoria). Its UK Poker League stops, such as Manchester with a £560 Main Event guaranteeing £100,000, give micro-stakes players a realistic shot at a live seat.
- Pro: Soft micro-stakes games, a cheap ticket-based start, and PayPal, Apple Pay and Trustly all supported.
- Con: The welcome tickets expire fast, and late-night traffic thins out well before PokerStars or GGPoker.
3. GGPoker – Best for Mobile, Big MTTs and Rakeback
If you play mostly on your phone, GGPoker is the one to beat: portrait tables, one-thumb bet sizing, and a lobby that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. The UK welcome is a 100% match up to £600, released at £1 for every £5 of rake or fees (effectively 20% extra rakeback) over 90 days. The licence is UKGC 47768.
Fish Buffet climbs 25 tiers to a 60% top rate, but lower tiers pay part of their value as wheel spins rather than cash, so casual players see much less than the headline. GGPoker also became Grosvenor Casinos’ live partner in 2026. Online qualifiers get a 20% cash boost on Goliath, G200 and G300 winnings and 10% at GUKPT stops, which matters if you play live in the UK.
- Pro: The best mobile app, a rakeback ceiling matched only by Unibet’s (60% vs 60.5%) on a far bigger pool, and boosted routes into UK live events.
- Con: Rake caps run on the high side before rewards, and clearing the full £600 bonus means paying £3,000 in rake.
4. Partypoker – Best for No-HUD Recreational Games
Partypoker is the room for players who hate being data-mined by regulars: HUDs are banned and downloadable hand histories are gone. New UK players get a 100% match up to £400 plus £40 in free tickets. Weekly cashback lands every Monday once you hit the minimum points, and while top rates are quoted up to 55%, most casual players sit well below that.
- Pro: Regulars and recreational players see the same information, and rewards land as cash every week.
- Con: Traffic is thinner than the top three, and withdrawing before the bonus clears forfeits whatever is left of it.
5. Unibet Poker – Best Soft Room With Low Tournament Fees
Tournament players pay less at Unibet: MTT fees run 4–8%, and the 4.8% PKO fee is among the lowest anywhere. A £20 first deposit gets you about £20 in tickets (one €8 cash-game ticket plus four €4 UK Tour tickets, €24 in total), a £500 playthrough bonus and four entries to weekly €500 welcome freerolls. Its loyalty ladder climbs 34 steps to 60.5% rakeback.
- Pro: Some of the softest regulated games in the UK, a HUD ban, and low MTT fees.
- Con: The pool is small and guarantees are modest. Welcome freeroll tickets die after 35 days and the playthrough bonus after 60.
6. Bet365 Poker – Best for Sports Bettors Crossing Over
Bet365 suits people who already bet there and fancy some poker without opening another account. It runs on Playtech’s iPoker network, so you share tables with several licensed brands. The €365 package is a €300 bonus plus €65 in mission rewards, and the €300 releases at 10 Bonus Points per €1 of rake with €1 paid per 50 points. Do the maths and that’s a 20% release rate, same as GGPoker.
One thing has changed: since 19 January 2026, UKGC rules ban bonuses that make you play across products, so a football acca can’t unlock poker rewards any more. The single wallet is still handy, but the cross-sell perks are gone.
7. Grosvenor Poker – Best for Live-to-Online Players
Grosvenor makes sense mainly if you already play in Grosvenor card rooms. The online room runs on iPoker and is operated by Rank Interactive (UKGC licence 57924). It offers satellites into its live festivals and a poker VIP rakeback scheme, and a Grosvenor One account links your online and in-club play. The catch is that since May 2026, the 10–20% live cash boosts go only to GGPoker qualifiers, not to players who qualify through Grosvenor’s own site.
How We Rank UK Poker Sites
We weight each factor by how much it moves your hourly win rate, which is why traffic and rake come first and bonuses barely feature. A one-off bonus fades within weeks; rake keeps coming out of every pot for as long as you play.
| Factor | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic and liquidity | 25% | Active tables at NL2–NL50 at peak and off-peak UK hours; MTT field sizes |
| Rake and fees | 20% | Cash rake % and caps, tournament fee % |
| Game softness | 20% | Recreational share of traffic, HUD policy, anonymity |
| Rewards and rakeback | 15% | Effective return at 10k and 50k hands per month |
| Software and mobile | 10% | Stability, multi-tabling, app feature parity |
| Payments and licensing | 10% | UKGC register status, enforcement history, withdrawal times |
We checked every room against the UKGC public register. Withdrawal times quoted here are the operators’ published processing windows. Your first cashout, or one from an account that isn’t fully verified, will usually take longer.
Left out on purpose: offshore and crypto rooms taking UK players without a UKGC licence. Yes, some of them run big games. But the moment you sign up you lose segregated funds, independent dispute resolution and GAMSTOP coverage, and that’s a bad trade for a slightly softer table.
Why Traffic Matters More Than the Welcome Bonus
Traffic decides whether your game runs when you can actually play. With ten NL10 tables you can pick seats next to the weakest players; with two, you sit wherever there’s a space, usually opposite the same regulars every night.
The 2026 consolidation: fewer UK pools, bigger tables
The UK market has consolidated around three big shared pools, alongside standalone rooms such as 888poker, partypoker and Unibet. The PokerStars Network has swallowed Betfair Poker, with Paddy Power and Sky Poker to follow. GGNetwork runs its own pool, and iPoker still hosts bet365, Grosvenor and other bookmaker skins. For former Betfair players that’s good news and bad news: far more tables, but sitting with PokerStars regulars instead of a soft iPoker crowd.
Shared liquidity: why UK players aren’t ring-fenced
Great Britain doesn’t ring-fence online poker the way France, Italy and Spain do (those markets share a closed pool with each other but not with the rest of the world). UK accounts sit in international pools, which is how PokerStars and GGPoker can put up such big guarantees. The trade-off is that you’re also up against strong players from all over Europe and beyond.
Peak hours for UK players
- Weekday evenings, 7pm–11pm UK time: the busiest stretch for cash games on European-heavy rooms like 888poker, Unibet and partypoker.
- Sunday afternoon and evening: peak tournament time, with the Sunday Million on PokerStars and the weekly guarantees on GGPoker.
- Late night, 1am–5am UK time: the smaller rooms go quiet, while PokerStars and GGPoker stay busy thanks to players in the Americas and Asia.
Rake Explained: What a Seat Really Costs
Rake is the room’s cut of every cash pot and tournament buy-in, and for a regular player it costs more over a year than any welcome bonus pays back. Put the same player in two rooms with similar games and the rake difference alone can turn a small winner into a small loser.
Cash game rake and caps
Expect about 5% at micro stakes almost everywhere, up to a cap that rises with the blinds. PokerStars was the cheap exception at 3.5% for NL2 until April 2024, when the dot-com increase raised that by roughly 40%. Most rooms use “no flop, no drop”, so pots won preflop aren’t raked. Check the percentage and the cap for your exact stake and table size, because the cap is often what actually matters.
Tournament fees
Tournament fees are printed on the buy-in: £10 + £1 means a 10% fee. Standard MTTs usually charge 8–12%, while Unibet charges 4–8% (4.8% on PKOs). Spin-style lottery games bury the fee inside the prize multiplier table, and PokerStars charges 7% on Spin & Gos in some markets.
Why rake bites hardest at micro stakes
| Stake (NL Hold’em) | Big blind | Typical rake paid per 100 hands* | In big blinds per 100 |
|---|---|---|---|
| NL2 | £0.02 | ~£0.20–£0.24 | 10–12 bb |
| NL10 | £0.10 | ~£0.80–£1.00 | 8–10 bb |
| NL50 | £0.50 | ~£2.50–£3.50 | 5–7 bb |
*Illustrative figures for a regular 6-max player at about 5% rake. Your real number depends on the room, the cap and how you play. A decent NL2 winner might beat the game by 5–10 bb/100 after rake. If rake eats 10–12 bb/100, the house is taking more than your edge, and that’s exactly why rakeback matters most at the bottom of the ladder.
What Poker Bonuses and Rakeback Are Actually Worth
How poker welcome bonuses release
Poker bonuses release in small chunks as you pay rake, and the standard UK rate is 20%. GGPoker pays £1 per £5 of rake. Bet365 pays €1 per 50 Bonus Points, earned at 10 points per €1 of rake. So clearing GGPoker’s full £600 means paying £3,000 in rake within 90 days, which very few micro-stakes players will ever manage.
Since 19 January 2026, UKGC rules cap wagering at 10× and ban offers that require play across products. In practice, that mostly stops rooms tying a poker welcome to casino or sports play.
Worked example: GGPoker’s £600 bonus at different volumes
| Monthly rake paid | Rake over 90 days | Bonus released (20%) | Share of £600 cleared |
|---|---|---|---|
| £20 (casual NL2) | £60 | £12 | 2% |
| £100 (regular NL10) | £300 | £60 | 10% |
| £1,000 (high-volume NL50) | £3,000 | £600 | 100% |
For most recreational players, the ticket-based offers win by a distance. 888poker’s £50 in tickets for a £10 deposit, or Unibet’s £20 in tickets, is money you can actually use. A £600 match you’ll clear 2% of before it expires is mostly marketing.
Rakeback vs loyalty schemes
Weekly cashback like partypoker’s is easy to value because it arrives as cash. Tiered schemes are different: GGPoker’s Fish Buffet tops out at 60%, Unibet’s ladder at 60.5% and Stars Rewards at about 25%, but they all start low and only climb with serious volume. If you play a few sessions a week, a flat cash rate usually beats a tier you’ll never reach.
Freerolls and free tickets
Freerolls are free practice, not a bankroll plan: prize pools are tiny and fields are huge. Tickets to paid events are different because they carry real cash value. Partypoker’s £40 in tickets and Unibet’s €8 and €4 tickets are worth using before they expire; Unibet’s four entries to €500 welcome freerolls are a bonus on top, not €2,000 of value.
Which Poker Site Suits Your Style of Play?
| If you are… | First choice | Alternative | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| A beginner | 888poker | Unibet Poker | Ticket-based welcomes, soft micro stakes |
| A tournament player | PokerStars on Betfair | GGPoker | Largest schedules and guarantees |
| A cash grinder | GGPoker | PokerStars on Betfair | 60% rakeback ceiling on a big pool vs deepest pool |
| A mobile-only player | GGPoker | PokerStars on Betfair | Mobile-first client |
| A low-fee MTT player | Unibet Poker | 888poker | 4–8% tournament fees |
| A live UK player | GGPoker | Grosvenor Poker | Cash boosts on Grosvenor live events |
| Anti-HUD | Partypoker | Unibet Poker | No third-party tracking |
For beginners
Beginners should pick a room with plenty of recreational players and stakes from 1p/2p. Start with ticket-funded tournaments or NL2 cash, where a 50-buy-in bankroll is just £100, and leave fast-fold until you can make decisions without the timer bullying you.
For tournament players
Tournament players should look at how many events run at their buy-in during UK evenings. PokerStars has the widest range. GGPoker is the pick for big guarantees, and it’s now also the way into Grosvenor’s live events with a 10–20% boost on whatever you win.
For cash game grinders
Grinders should compare rake after rewards at their own volume, not headline rake. At 50k hands a month, a tiered scheme like Fish Buffet can pay several times what a weekend player sees. At 5k hands it barely registers.
For mobile players: the best poker apps
GGPoker has the best one-handed app. UK PokerStars players now go through the Betfair app, which runs PokerStars software underneath. 888poker’s rebuilt 2026 client adds browser-based mobile play with nothing to download. Before you commit, check that your format actually runs on mobile, because some rooms still hold back certain tournaments.
For Omaha and PLO players
PLO players should stick to GGPoker and PokerStars, which run the most Omaha at micro and low stakes, including 5-card games. Smaller rooms often have only a few PLO tables even at peak. Pots are bigger relative to the blinds in Omaha, so the rake cap matters more than in Hold’em; check it before you sit.
Which Poker Games Can You Play Online?
| Format | What it is | Who it suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| No-Limit Hold’em cash | Buy in, leave any time | Players wanting flexible sessions | ~5% rake at micro stakes |
| Pot-Limit Omaha | Four (or five) hole cards | Action-seekers | Bigger swings, thinner traffic |
| Fast-fold (Zoom, Rush & Cash, Fast Forward) | Move to a new table when you fold | High-volume players | Fewer reads; not offered at Unibet |
| Multi-table tournaments | Fixed buy-in, large fields | Players with long sessions | Can run 6+ hours |
| Sit & Go | Small single-table tournaments | Shorter sessions | Fewer recreational players |
| Spin-style lottery SNGs (Spin & Go, BLAST, SPINS) | 3-player, random prize multiplier | Players wanting a quick shot | High effective fee, big variance |
| Short Deck (6+) | Cards 2–5 removed | Experienced players | Limited UK traffic |
Poker vs casino poker vs video poker. At a poker site you play other people and the room only takes rake, so skill decides long-term results. Casino Hold’em and Three Card Poker put you against the house, which keeps a built-in edge. Video poker is a solo machine with a fixed paytable. Only the first is what this page ranks.
HUDs, Real-Time Assistance and Fair Play: What Each Room Allows
Tracking software and HUDs
Whether a room allows HUDs tells you a lot about who it’s built for. Where they’re permitted, regulars build stat files on every recreational player they meet. That’s why HUD-free rooms such as partypoker, Unibet and GGPoker suit casual players, while PokerStars, 888poker and the iPoker skins suit players who study their own game in tracking software.
Real-time assistance and bots
Real-time assistance, meaning solvers or charts consulted mid-hand, is banned by the terms of every major UK-licensed room. Security teams review play patterns, close offending accounts and often refund the players affected. If something smells like a bot or collusion, send the hand IDs to support rather than just complaining in chat.
Is online poker rigged?
No, there’s no evidence UKGC-licensed rooms fix deals, and they have no motive to: the room earns the same rake whoever wins the pot. Independent labs test the random number generators as a licence condition. Most “rigged” complaints come down to volume, because online you see in a month the bad beats a live player sees in a year.
Deposits and Withdrawals: How Fast You Get Paid
Safety first: UKGC licensees must protect player funds under customer-funds rules and disclose how protected they are, and must use regulated payment providers. Credit cards have been banned for UK gambling since April 2020, so you’ll deposit by debit card, e-wallet or bank transfer.
| Method | Typical min deposit | Typical withdrawal time | Bonus notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa / Mastercard debit | £5–£10 | Hours to 3 working days | Qualifies for most poker welcomes |
| PayPal | £10 | Often within 24 hours | Supported at 888poker; check per room |
| Skrill / Neteller | £10 | Within 24 hours | Excluded from 888poker’s welcome |
| Apple Pay | £5–£10 | Paid back to linked card | Qualifies at PokerStars and 888poker |
| Pay by Bank / Trustly | £10 | Same day to 5 working days | Useful if your bank blocks card gambling |
| Paysafecard | £10 | Withdrawals not possible | Deposit only |
If you’ve just moved from PokerStars.uk, set your e-wallet up again in the Betfair cashier before you try to withdraw. And wherever you play, upload your ID at sign-up. Unverified accounts cause more withdrawal delays than anything else, and that’s not a hassle you want after a good night.
Is Online Poker Legal and Safe in the UK?
Yes, online poker is legal in Great Britain for anyone 18 or over, provided the site holds a UK Gambling Commission licence (Northern Ireland has separate gambling law, but the same UKGC-licensed rooms accept NI players). That licence comes with age and ID checks, protected customer funds, certified random number generators and access to an independent dispute service.
- Find the licence number in the site footer, such as 47768 for GGPoker or 57924 for Rank Interactive, which runs Grosvenor.
- Search for it on the UKGC public register and confirm the domain is listed.
- Check the register for recent enforcement actions.
Red flags: “not on GamStop” marketing, crypto-only cashiers, no visible licence number, or bonuses that dwarf every licensed rival. Poker winnings are already tax-free for UK players, so a site pitching “tax-free poker” is selling you something you already have.
How to Sign Up and Play Your First Hand
- Choose a room from the table above that fits your format and the hours you play. For PokerStars, register through Betfair.
- Register with details that match your ID and payment method. Your screen name is usually permanent, and it’s case-sensitive at Betfair.
- Verify your account by uploading photo ID and proof of address straight away.
- Set limits, opt in, then deposit: add a deposit limit, enter any bonus code or select the welcome offer, and fund with an eligible method.
- Start at micro stakes, such as NL2 cash or your welcome tickets, until the software and table speed feel normal.
How Much Bankroll Do You Need?
| Format | Recommended bankroll | Example |
|---|---|---|
| NL Hold’em cash | 30–50 buy-ins (beginners: 50+) | NL2 (£2 buy-in): £60–£100 |
| PLO cash | 50–100 buy-ins | PLO2: £100–£200 |
| Sit & Go | 50–100 buy-ins | £1 SNGs: £50–£100 |
| Multi-table tournaments | 100–200 buy-ins | £1 MTTs: £100–£200 |
| Spin-style SNGs | 100+ buy-ins | £1 spins: £100+ |
Move down when your roll falls below the lower figure, and move up only once you’ve got a cushion above the upper one. And keep it separate from the rent money. A bankroll is cash you can lose entirely without it hurting anything else.
Safer Gambling at Poker Sites
Poker rewards skill over time, but short-term swings are brutal, and long sessions make chasing losses far too easy. Use the deposit limits, session reminders and time-outs in your account settings. If poker stops being fun, GAMSTOP blocks you from UK-licensed gambling sites. Free, confidential support is available 24/7 from the GamCare National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 and from BeGambleAware.
